have been doing some calculations...
1.beijing trip for winnie: 8 days, $1000
OR
clarinet for sis: 3 years, $ 1300 approx
going once, going twice, winnie went for beijing trip.
2. dinner with family on christmas eve: 2 hours, $89
OR
New pair of shoes: 2 years, $80 approx
and of course dinner won the votes..
3. catch up with friends over dinner: 2 hours, $15
OR
new clothes: 1-2 years?, $40
winnie is still wearing jus' wack, so no new clothes.
it doesnt make sense does it,
if money used for options 1 were saved up for option 2,
many more material things could have been bought.
and they can sustain longer,
using the winnie-aunty's-kiasu-mentality,
it's more worth it.
but perhaps, money is spent to "buy" time together,
and putting in deliberate efforts to create memories.
because after all,
those are the things that really matter.
now i understand why the leaders always say
MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE
when it comes to missions trips, camps, leadership conferences..
because money is spent to "buy" experiences,
learnings,
and time together,
when actually they worth much more than the money spent.
so perhaps,
now when we spend money for birthday celebrations,
get together with biblical companies,
or just catch a movie with care group peeps,
stop having heartache about how much we spent,
but start smilling widely for the memories created.
and perhaps perhaps when i also see the value of spending money on clothes,
and stop being so log kok,
you'll not see winnie in jus' wack anymore.
but for now,
in everywhere i go,
in everything i do,
i'll still

*shrugs* =)
